The Ortofon MC A Mono Cartridge is a TRUE MONO cartridge. Playing a MONO record with a stereo cartridge won't allow users to achieve the same signal in the 2 channels. This is due to imperfections like noise, phase errors, crosstalk, distortion, tracking error, and antiskating. However, using a TRUE MONO cartridge produces only 1 signal which is then directed to both channels in the system, thus avoiding the previously mentioned problems. This provides a more forceful and stable image with a fuller sound. Additionally, using a TRUE MONO cartridge to play MONO records results in the absence of response to vertical movement. This means that this cartridge is essentially impervious to the pinching effect which comes into action when the stylus is pushed vertically upward in very narrow grooves. These effects simply cannot be achieved merely by the use of a mono switch.
